Pre-Requisite:

There is no pre-requisite for a Level 1 Yoga Beginners Intensive. This course will start at the very beginning, and gradually advance over the days and weeks of practice. Each Level 1 (and Level 2) Intensive is different, as Sabu navigates through the course based on the participants in the class. For this reason, any student, from any previous experience level, is welcome to join a Level 1 Intensive to re-fresh and re-charge a current practice or start from the very beginning.

About the Course

Throughout the Month-Long Beginners Intensive, you will be introduced to several elements of a Yoga practice such as proper breathing, proper relaxation and proper exercise, as well as an in depth look at physiology, phsycology and the effects of various Yoga postures on the heart, the brain, the nervous system and the mind.

The method you will be learning comes from the Sivananda Yoga Tradition, founded by Swami Vishnudevananda in 1957, who came to the West from India to share the great wisdom of Yoga with all of us. Swami Vishnudevananda introduced a very methodic system of Yoga practice for a balanced life, including twelve basic yoga postures (asanas), relaxation (savasana), breathing exercises (pranayama) and sun salutations (surya namaskar).

This combined practice of breathing, relaxation and exercise stimulates the internal organs, stretches and lengthens the muscles, increases circulation, calms the mind, and brings higher focus and concentraion, thus bringing optimum health to the practitioner. You will learn step-by-step about each of these valuable practices as well as their physiological, psychological and spiritul benefits. You will have time over the month to feel the effects of your Yoga practice and discuss any questions that may come up.

What to bring

There are yoga mats at the studio, but if you have your own, you are welcome to bring it.
